Blackjack Team Play
To anyone watching-including casino personnel-the betting levels of the big player start as large and continue as large, substantiating the idea that this player simply bets at those levels all the time. And since the big player obviously wasn't present for some previous part of the shoe, Casino personnel couldn't come to suspect him or her as an advantage player. All the while the spotter either moves on to another table or continues to play at the same table, betting the minimum allowable or keeping bets low enough to avoid any kind of scrutiny. When the count drops off, the Big Player simply leaves the game, again looking for a signal from another spotter that his or her table has gone highly positive.
Team Signals
Signals are the lifeblood of the entire process, and can be any kind of motion or movement that logistically can be interpreted by another team member. The one requirement, of course, is that all signals are discreet enough to give and receive in full view of casino personnel-and won't look like gestures trying to convey some type of information. Essentially, two types of signals are necessary. The first type would be a group used to convey information not in any way related to the count. Let's call these "communication" signals. Wanting to end a session, calling a Big Player into a game, or even signaling a bathroom break are all necessary bits of information that at some point need conveying. Otherwise, one teammate won't know for certain what the other teammate is doing-which might lead to a missed opportunity or some other situation better avoided.
The second type of communication necessary is a signal used to convey either the running count or the true count, depending on what level system is being used. We'll call these "count" signals. Teams opting to use a multi-level point count will require a lot more signals because the running count and the number of aces played are both bits of information needing representation-so that a true count for betting purposes may be calculated by the Big Player before reverting back to the running count. Whereas, for those teams using a one-level count without a side count of aces, the spotter can simply determine the true count and convey that directly to the Big Roulette Player. Once in the game, the Big Player can simply work backwards by multiplying the true count by the number of decks remaining (or the correct conversion factor as illustrated in Chapter Six) to determine the running count for subsequent hands.
Since communication signals are used to transfer information to a receiver who may not be within earshot, these signals must be of the silent variety.
Communication Signals
These can be of any kind, as long as discretion is maintained. In a few instances some may be developed that might suggest, just by nature, the desired bit of information being communicated. For instance, I've often Used rubbing my eyes as a way to signify the desire to "call it an evening. It's natural, especially late at night, and it's also something people do when they're tired. Of course, you must be careful not to rub your eyes at just the wrong moment. The last thing you want to do is have a spotter start to get up from a table just as the true count goes through the nearest bubble. The table that follows lists common bits of information often needing transfer between members of a Internet casino blackjack team in full operation. Included is a translation and sample movement or motion that could serve as the signal.
Remember that the signals shown below are examples. Feel free to use them-but realize it might serve your team better to develop some that aren't already published in a book outlining blackjack team methods.
